Fall Range Practice Tee Activity Update

It's that time year again for over-seeding of the range practice tees with ryegrass.  This process will be completed the last week of September.  After seed has been dropped, all range practice tee activity will need to take place on our new TurfHound artificial surface for several weeks.  This period without foot and cart traffic will allow for optimum germination and establishment of the seed.  Activity on the over-seeded tees will resume in late October after the third or fourth mowing.  The lower and short game practice tees will be opened next week during this year's Member-Guest.

The short game practice tee below the Practice Green will be utilized as a helicopter ride landing pad tomorrow afternoon for several hours(member birthday party).  All practice tee activity for the afternoon will be setup for use with reduced number of stations on the left side of the upper practice tee. Practice green activity will continue tomorrow afternoon, with chipping only from the cart path side.  Please enjoy tomorrow afternoon's excitement safely and smartly.

Feast or Famine

This summer has dealt extreme challenges for overall turf quality on the course with above normal temperatures and drought conditions.  The pictures below represent the positive effects(on fairways and rough) of almost 2 inches of rain over the past weeks.  Recovery of greens will become more noticeable as September approaches with lower dew points, humidity, and night-time temperatures.

Greens Aeration Recovery Update

Today is the 11th day since Greens Core Aeration/Heavy Topdressing was completed.  Recovery is progressing well with increased soil temperatures.  Dry/afternoon mowings were accomplished this past week at 0.180" and 0.160" HOC respectively.  Tomorrow morning's mowing will be at 0.150" HOC, followed by rolling on Sunday.  Goal for next week will be to gradually get back to pre-aeration HOC of 0.130", but will be proceeding cautiously with early extreme heat forecasted.  Improved ball roll will become more noticeable over the next week as coverage continues.  The timing of this process should assist greatly with improved turf quality and ball roll going through the summer months.  Thanks to all for understanding during this time of playability disruption.

Pool Stamped Concrete Area

The sand tether ball area by the pool has now been converted to a more functional stamped concrete patio area(see pictures below).  Pressure washing and sealing of surface will be completed this coming Monday morning.

Irrigation Pump Install

New course irrigation motor and pump install was completed last week(the one on the left in picture).  Other motor/pump was replaced two years ago.  Irrigation efficiency/reliability is greatly improved now for years to come.  Mother Nature will still need to assist with timely rain events to replenish storage ponds and creek during summer months.

Range Tee Renovation Update

Range project continues to progress well.  Looking forward to much increased teeing space and view from short game area near putting green.  Drainage on range floor began this week.  Netting has been installed on back teaching tee to accommodate for modified range activity during process.  Completion time frame still on track by month end pending weather events.

Greens Aeration

Our second greens core aeration went extremely well this week.  Recovery time frame will be much shorter than the March aeration with much higher soil temperatures now.  Daily rolling for surface preparation will the protocol through the weekend and into next week.  First mowing at higher heights will be later next week once turf growth has progressed above sand.  Mowing heights will be gradually lowered over the next couple weeks as coverage improves and sand becomes less abrasive to mower reels.  This late spring aeration will allow for continued development of root structure prior to summer heat.  Monthly venting with bayonet solid tines will proceed over summer months, same as past several years.  Final greens core aeration of the year will take place late September shortly after Member-Guest tournaments.

Course Sod Work

Sodding of the majority of collar on hole 11 was completed last Friday.  Imperfections in levelness will be addressed with aeration and top dressing  over the next month.  All sod for collar work on holes 2, 8, and 11 were generated from range tee area prior to renovation that began today.  Several other needed collar/approach areas will be addressed in following weeks utilizing sod from target green areas.

Select Tee Renovation

Here are a few pictures of the renovation of several select tees.  All failing turf was removed and teeing surfaces laser leveled prior to installation of new Zoysia sod, same as Club House Event Lawn and very similar to the existing turf on hole 13 Members tee.  Last of sod needed for holes 5 and 3 will be installed tomorrow morning.  Grow in time prior to availability for normal play is estimated at two weeks.  Expectations are positive for increased turf quality in these shady locations.
